Connect your agents
Blurt can read your coding agents’ replies aloud and keep them in one place, in Live Blurt. It works with Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity.
The easy way: open Blurt’s Settings → Agents and connect your agent there. Blurt makes the change for you and keeps your other hooks. The rest of this page is for setting it up by hand.
How it works
Blurt only listens. Your agent tells Blurt what it said; Blurt speaks it and shows it in Live Blurt. Nothing you say goes back to the agent this way. Blurt must be running to speak; if it is closed, replies wait on your Mac for up to a week and play when Blurt next opens.
There are two ways in. Pick one, not both:
- Reply hook (recommended). Your agent runs a small Blurt helper each time it finishes a turn, so every reply is spoken.
- MCP tools. Your agent calls Blurt only when it decides to say something.
Reply hook for Claude Code
Add this to Claude Code’s settings.json:
{
"hooks": {
"Stop": [
{
"hooks": [
{
"type": "command",
"command": "ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE=1 /Applications/Blurt.app/Contents/MacOS/Blurt /Applications/Blurt.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/out/main/agent-hook.js --client=claude"
}
]
}
]
}
}
For Codex or Antigravity, use the same command on their turn-finished hook and change the last part to --client=codex or --client=antigravity.
The hook never blocks your agent: if Blurt is closed or something goes wrong, it quietly does nothing. A reply that arrives twice is spoken once.
MCP server
In your agent’s MCP settings, add a server that runs Blurt’s built-in helper. No Node, Python or shell is needed:
{
"command": "/Applications/Blurt.app/Contents/MacOS/Blurt",
"args": [
"/Applications/Blurt.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/out/main/agent-stdio.js",
"--client=codex"
],
"env": { "ELECTRON_RUN_AS_NODE": "1" }
}
Use --client=claude, --client=codex or --client=antigravity to match the agent. Each agent sees only its own sessions.
Privacy
Agents reach Blurt over a private connection on your Mac that only your account can open; nothing goes over the network. Blurt keeps its own credentials for each agent in your user folder. Never copy them into an agent’s settings. Which voice reads replies decides where the text goes: on-device voices stay on your Mac, cloud voices send the text to that provider. See Privacy.
Controls
In Live Blurt you can pause, resume, skip or mute narration. Holding your dictation key silences narration while you speak, and it picks up again afterwards.
